Borrowing & Returns

Library Card

You may receive a free library card from the Perry County Public Library or from the bookmobile by providing a picture ID with your name, current address and phone number. Your library card allows you to use all library materials and services. For your protection, we require a valid library card to check out any materials or to use the Internet. Library cards are issued to all ages. ($3 replacement fee charged for lost cards)

The library has the following loan periods on circulation materials:

  • 14 days Books, DVDs, audio books, music CD's, magazines, play-aways, and play-away views.

You must have your library card to borrow any materials. This helps insure your privacy and prevents abuse.

Maximum loan limits are 20 titles at one time independent of the type of materials borrowed. (Temporary visitors may check out a maximum of 4 titles at one time)

Library materials may be returned to the library or bookmobile. When the library is closed materials may be returned in the drop box located on the right side of the building.

Audio Books

Due to the size of circulating collections, the library has placed limitations on the number of items a patron may borrow.

These are:

Magazines 20
Play-away View 2

Magazines and Newspapers

Over one hundred forty magazines, eight local, regional and state newspapers are available for public use in the library. The Hazard-Herald newspaper on microfilm dates back to 1910.

Most materials may be renewed three times (DVDs may be renewed once) in person, online or by telephone unless they are on reserve for another patron. Overdue materials may be renewed, but a fine will be assessed (when applicable) and no other materials may be borrowed until overdue items are returned.

Overdue items accrue fines daily and fines are charged as follows:

DVD's 50 cents/day cost of item

When the library is closed materials may be returned in the drop box located in the drive thru on the side of the building.

The library will make every reasonable accommodation to assist qualified disabled persons wishing to make use of library facilities or services. If such accommodation is required, patrons are asked to notify any library employee.
